With New York hitting 90 degrees last weekend, I don’t think there’s ever been a better time to shop for the best sunglasses. If you know me, you know that I never leave the house without my trusty sunscreen or my sunglasses. Not only does a good pair of sunglasses protect me from the sun, but they are the perfect accessory to complete an outfit. You should never underestimate the power a pair of sunglasses can bring to your basic dress or shorts and t-shirt ensemble.
However, I started racking up a hefty bill from the intense splurges since my favorite sunglasses are designer (sorry, not sorry!), until I discovered a little secret: buying previous seasons on discount retail sites.
From Saks Off 5th to Nordstrom Rack, I’ve expanded my collection of designer sunglasses, scoring some of my most favorite pairs yet for a fraction of the cost. Whether it’s my oversized Gucci sunglasses or my red-tinted Celine sunglasses that pair perfectly with my favorite lipstick, my sunglasses collection owes me nothing.
Which led me to ask, Am I the only one obsessed with finding a piece of jewelry at a discount? Turns out I’m not. According to a 5th representative from Saks Off, the focus is currently on designer brands. “Balenciaga in particular is having a moment, and customers are loyal to Saint Laurent and Gucci. They have a loyal following – after you buy your first pair, you come back for more,” they told us. And I can tell.
So now that I’ve let you in on the secret, scroll down to pick up some of my favorite designer buys for a whole lot less.
Okay, even though it’s not a discount retailer, it has a Major sale right now – making it a great time to nab sunglasses that were just full price a few weeks ago and will be back full price (or worse out of stock) when the sale will end in a few days. Another hack: You must have an Ssense account to have access to the Private Sale where all the good discounts are.
Chloé speaks a particular eyewear language with her shapes and silhouettes. This pair is an immediate add to cart.
Round shades can be overbearing for some face shapes, but they are enough.
Two trends, one design: Small frames and white frames are all the rage this season, according to Saks Off 5th comments. If you like to be super trendy, then it’s a no brainer.
More tortoiseshell, but make it extra-chic!
As Saks said, shapes have a moment, and these butterfly-shaped sunglasses will instantly transform you into a fly, playful girl. The rimless design is also one that is not seen on many shades.
Pink continues to be in style, but these jazzy Casablanca frames are particularly unique, so even if everyone is wearing pink, they won’t look anything like these.
With a wide selection of designers and styles, you can never go wrong finding a great pair here.
Saks Off 5th tells us that turtle-patterned shades never go out of style, and we agree. They are classics. They’re the perfect square fit, with a chic Gucci logo on the sunglasses temples.
Something about round sunglasses makes them look like they complement your face, and with a fun print like this, the pair will instantly elevate your summer outfits.
This style screams futuristic, and this shade of red will quickly elevate a basic outfit. They are also designed with an additional side shield for added sun protection. Elegant and protective? Sold.
On all Tom Ford glasses there is a signature J embellished on the arms, and this pair is no different. The yellow hue is subtle enough to transition from your summer wardrobe to fall, and the brand’s shapes suit almost any face.
Another trend this season is pink, and these round Pucci specs are perfect for the holidays – playful, on-trend and affordable luxury.
Heart-shaped glasses were a huge 2021 trend that Saks Off 5th saw, and this season is already no exception. These shades are funky yet fun, and because they’re black, they’ll go with almost anything. A touch of colored lipstick and you get a summer look!
Classic Versace cat eye? Innovative. No, seriously, they’re perfect all year round and will make you feel like you’re living your rich Italian dreams.
Embellishments and recognizable branded patterns are another best seller, Saks Off 5th tells us. Don’t like logos, but love brand styling? Nothing says Gucci more than this crystallized retro style.
Nordstrom Rack inventory is known to sell out quickly. Take note to snap the shades as soon as you see them. Otherwise, they will be the ones who will run away.
You can never go wrong with a pair of aviators. These are summer essentials. They complement most face shapes and pair well with just about anything.
Add a bold edge to your aviators with these yellow-tinted Gucci sunglasses. They’re on the oversized and extra side of the spectrum, but well worth the statement.
Monochromatic shades to highlight a monochromatic outfit? I think so! These oversized square sunglasses are the only accessory you’ll need for a monochrome big moment.
Cat’s-eye, but make it stylish! These Bottega rose gold shades are designed for the stylish person who loves cat eyes but wants to be a little bolder.
Round sunglasses take eyewear to another level, and sunglasses from Ray-Ban are the most classic pair to have. Beyoncé loves sunny rounds too—need I say more?
Balenciaga has been the go-to brand, and that’s obviously because their sunglasses are so cool. Nothing says “cool girl” more than these.
This pair of Dior aviators is a cult favorite for the brand, so why not snag it for less?
