In 2018, sports sunglasses began to take the reins of that year’s most ubiquitous solar trend: tiny sunglasses. On the Spring 2018 catwalks, Alexander Wang collaborated with Oakley, and brands like Stella McCartney and Fenty x Puma also had sporty sunglasses on their respective catwalks. For Spring 2019, Heron Preston also sent Nike Vision performance eyewear on his show.
In 2021, the sporty sunglasses trend is back, but where the 2018 iterations were obviously sporty, this year’s styles are minimalist, refined and easy to wear. Designers like Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga and Burberry have all sent pairs of raised, even futuristic frames, to the catwalks, paired with equally minimalist dresses and suits. They bring a sporty touch to an otherwise trendy look; the aerodynamic and enveloping silhouettes are the only real gift that the world of athletics has inspired these futuristic frames.
Here, shop for the sunglass trend for a moment. Plus, they’ll go just as well with your summer basics as they do with chunky fall sweaters and suits.
