That’s when an orangutan tried on a pair of sunglasses that had accidentally been dropped in its enclosure at an Indonesian zoo.
The large female monkey, who was carrying her baby, walked over to the sunglasses after they fell inside the grounds of Taman Safari Park in Bogor, Indonesia.
Park visitor Olita Tetsu was watching the orangutans when her glasses slipped off the top of her head and fell into the enclosure.
This is the moment an orangutan at Taman Safari Park in Bogor, Indonesia, tries on a pair of sunglasses after their owner accidentally drops the sunglasses in the monkey enclosure
The orangutan was quickly able to open the glasses and knew they were meant to sit across the bridge of his nose and ears.
Olita Tetsu said she was looking into the precinct when the glasses slipped from her head
The orangutan walked through his enclosure to retrieve the sunglasses from the grass
She said: âI was leaning over to look at the orangutans at the back of the enclosure when my sunglasses fell off my head.
“After a few minutes, one of the orangutan moms came over and picked up the glasses and the rest is filmed!”
The orangutan spent over a minute playing with the glasses, trying to figure out exactly how they would sit on his head.
In the footage, Ms. Tetsu can be heard exclaiming as the orangutan picks up her glasses. The monkey then put them in its mouth, prompting the visitor to say, âOh no, don’t eat them. “
But it only took a few moments for the orangutan to figure out how the hinges allowed the temples to sway, before placing the sunglasses on the bridge of its nose.
The curious monkey then tried to look through the glasses on the opposite side, through the lens facing outwards.
At one point, her baby tried to grab the glasses but was warned.
After more than a minute with the glasses on, the orangutan decided to return the sunglasses and threw them out of the enclosure.
On social media, people who viewed the footage were in awe of the orangutan.
Eventually, the orangutan retreated into a tree and threw the glasses out of its enclosure.
Although one user said, “The fact that she knows what to do with them scares me a little.”
Commenting on the moment the baby tried to grab the glasses, Bailey said on TikTok, “Moms can’t have anything for themselves, no matter what the species.”
Jessica Vill added: âI swear gorillas, orangutans and monkeys are incredibly intelligent.
“I’m sure they have complex thoughts like us!”
âThey are simply unable to speak our language. “
Mary added: “It looked like she was checking if it was a brand name.”
