Making the collection stylish was of course important to Malik, but an angle of sustainability was just as important. The styles were all made using only bio-based materials including all acetates and lenses. âIt’s important for all of us to be mindful of the environment,â he says.
This fall, Zayn says he’ll definitely wear his own sunglasses, but for clothes, he’ll experiment with a more edgy look. âI think the grunge look is sick. Very in that aesthetic right now, âhe says. “For fall, I’ll also be wearing sportswear and chic, casual clothes – jeans and t-shirts.” As for the brands he oversees, “I’m always open to working with pieces from new brands and independent designers,” he says. (In the past, he’s worn brands like Bode.)
When asked if he’s a collector of a particular thing, Malik replies he’s more of a Democrat when it comes to shopping. âI’m quite particular when it comes to style, because I see it as a form of self-expression,â he says. âFor me, it’s not really about collecting anything specific. It’s more about collecting pieces that look like me and look good.
Now that he’s finished his design gig, Malik says his next big project will be back in the studio to complete this highly anticipated next album. âI still write and record. I’m currently working on my next record, âhe says. “I plan to release this album differently than I did before, so it’s exciting.” And no, there’s no release date yet – you’ll have to keep waiting.
